The triptych of works in question, depicting three different views of Venice, is attributable to the hand of the Italian painter Eugenio Bonivento (Chioggia, 8 June 1880 - Milan, 12 November 1956), as shown by the signature made at the bottom (right or left) on each panel. The subjects depicted are, respectively, starting from the left, a Market Scene, of the Fishermen in the lagoon and a further glimpse of the Market, all executed with rapid and dynamic brushstrokes aimed at making the excitement of the moment of everyday immortalized.

Despite his studies at a young age at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, the real artistic training of Eugenio Bonivento took place thanks to the teachings of the artist Guglielmo Ciardi (Venice, 1842 - 1917), with whom he shared the same poetic and pictorial predisposition, fed by the Venetian spirit that united them.

Although the undeniable influences of the latter remain visible, in his early works Bonivento is very interested in the Venetian landscape painting of the eighteenth century, especially for the bright and chromatic rendering. The lagoon and the Venetian countryside remained the favourite subject of his works throughout his life. Typical motives of his production were, in fact, genre scenes, fishermen, marine, usually characterized by a very structured design, strong luministic accents and a thick pictorial mixture. Among the main exhibitions of his career that consecrated him are the numerous participations in the Venice Biennale, that of 1912 and the three consecutive ones of 1920, 1922 and 1924.The post-war period effectively ended Bonivento’s exhibition career which was isolated to continue his pictorial activity that in the meantime was evolving towards rapid brushstrokes, lightened paintings and more synthetic pictorial gestures.

His paintings are kept at the Gallery of Modern Art in Milan, the International Gallery of Modern Art in Venice, the Civic Museum of Bassano del Grappa, the Museum of Italian Art in Lima, the art collection of the Banca Commerciale Italiana and the Pinacoteca Giovanni Morscio in Dolceacqua.
