Walnut wood, 93 x 122 x 43 cm
This Renaissance style sideboard is characterized precisely by the complex processing of the wooden material, in this case walnut, and by the symmetrical and orderly structuring of the decorations alternating with drawers and doors. The vegetal motifs that separate and surround the long parts of the two central doors end with two lion heads on the sides and with a coat of arms in the central strip; the prominence given by the depth of the carving makes these processes stand out above the others, more meticulous and contained: the edges of the doors and horizontal shelves, the lion-legged feet, typical of the Renaissance style and the foliage squares that separate the two small drawers above the doors. This furniture is precisely characterized by intricate carvings, floral and figurative motifs that draw inspiration from the forms of classical antiquity, with a harmony and symmetry that reflect the aesthetic ideals of the time. In the period between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, with the revival of historical styles, the Renaissance was also rediscovered and reinterpreted: the typical furniture of the Renaissance era was therefore produced again, returning to populate bourgeois homes - where craftsmanship and the ancient charm of this kind of furniture, such as chests of drawers, monumental beds, Savonarola chairs and the door furniture, or the sideboard; the latter accompanied by multiple drawers and doors and usually just under one and a half meters high finds the precise characteristics of the traditional style in the example presented here.
