The furniture embodies a refined example of an 18th century Lombard chest of drawers. The limelight is characterized by the balance of volumes and symmetry of decorations. These furnishings spread under the austere domination of the Spanish court in Milan from the end of the Sforza lordship in 1499 to the severity imposed by the Council of Trent and the Counter-Reformation that spread until the late eighteenth century. The model of the folding chest was interpreted in the eighteenth century in different declinations from region to region. In the Lombardy area next to the models with black-painted frames, in the mid-eighteenth century the "urn" shape develops: the sinuous line, typical of eighteenth-century furniture, finds its maximum expression in these "urn" furnishings, typical of the production of Veneto and Lombardy. The particular feature of this piece of furniture, from which it takes its name, is the undulating top that concludes its upward trend and closing with almost oriental elegance the curved structure of the cabinet. This type of furniture moves in the contour lines while maintaining harmonious and balanced proportions. In the urn flap, the burr surface is often continuous and not broken by the wooden frames that are often found in furniture of the same period.
The furniture under consideration, with its sinuous line of movement and counter-movement, is characterized by a classic urn shape. It has two large drawers in the lower part and a drawer below the table has a groove that further extends the cabinet towards the top. The open calatoia reveals a plan to be used as a desk and a series of six drawers.
