Giuseppe Pessina (Milan, 1893 - Paris, 1967)

Landscape of plains

Oil on canvas, signed, cm 70 x 100

With frame, cm 94 x 123

Born on 16 December, Pessina was born and trained in Milan, famous for its suggestive views of the Lombardy Alps and the territories of the valleys of Bergamo. He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, following the courses of the portrait artist Antonio Ambrogio Alciati, similar to Cremona and Boldini for the pastosità of the dough, and Giuseppe Palanti, besides the painter also set designer, publicist and figurinista dedicated to applied arts. The rich differentiation of doctrine was followed by the desire to participate in the major exhibitions of the time: in 1924 the artist attended the Exhibition of the portrait of Monza, which he followed with the Exhibition of Fighters. In 1930 he was part of the Permanent Gallery in Milan; he also exhibited his art later, at the Navigli Exhibition and the Exhibition of the Society for the Fine Arts and Permanent Exhibition in Milan (1938) with the painting Giardino a primavera. The Events of the Milanese Artistic Family kept the artist engaged until July 1944, when Pessina had the opportunity to organize his first solo show at the Ranzini gallery in Milan. The present painting gives airy landscapes of boundless depth, in which the bucolic aspect is surpassed by the crystalline wonder of the natural data. The triad is therefore offered as an anthem to life and the unexpected revelation of everyday beauty, rich in inspiration and dreamlike atmospheres in every detail.
