"Felice Paganoni stato ISSVEXXXIII"
The painting in question depicts a portrait of a nobleman identified by the inscription above as Felice Paganoni, aged thirty-three (etat.is.sve XXXIII). The nobleman is dressed in a heavy robe of powdery blue silk, tied at the waist by a sash, which emphasizes the figure of the man and opens showing the rich brocade waistcoat.
The gaze fixed on the external observer to the painting and the pose in half-mast of three quarters identify the portrait as 'official', or commissioned by the nobleman for a private or public use, but through which the royalty and nobility of the effigy should shine. For this he is portrayed with his best clothes, which characterize him in daily life and with a white handkerchief in his hands, which probably alludes to a loss, Used to dry tears. These details, together with the deep and vivid look and the subtle expressive nuances of the face - the arched eyebrows, the straight nose, the rosy cheeks, enhance the psychological introspection rendered by a high pictorial quality.
The work can be placed in the vast panorama of Lombard portraiture between the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century, dominated by personalities such as Giacomo Ceruti, known as Pitocchetto (1698 - 1767). See therefore some examples of portraits of the painter, such as the Portrait of Alessandro Bonometti (Brescia, Coll Priv), the Portrait of a gentleman in private collection, the Portrait of Agostino Romano and the Portraits in private collection in Bergamo and the Galleria Sabauda in Turin.
