Interior of a Gothic cathedral
Oil on canvas, cm 82 x 62
The canvas analyzed portrays the interior of a Gothic church, probably existing, taken with a central perspective that makes the idea of depth of the environment. The walls are divided by pointed arch openings and pillars that connect to the ribs of the cross vaults thus forming an additional decorative, as well as static. The floor, half in the shade and half illuminated by a pleasant play of lights that is also repeated on the walls, is decorated with some tombstones, which testify to the custom of creating tombs inside churches.
The light amplifies the sacral atmosphere of the room by penetrating through the open window on the left side of the painting. The light caught in a particular moment of the day makes us think of a realization of the painting as a memory of a particular place, to finish by adding other details later, as perhaps the presence of the figures that animate the scene with bright colors.
