The small bedside table veneered in various woods is to be referred to the hands of Neapolitan cabinetmakers active in the eighteenth century.
The bedside table is double-crowned entirely decorated with lozenges in a geometric pattern in opposing woods. It has two large drawers in the front, on slightly moved legs, with stylized capital and front frame in gilded bronze and marble top. For at least the first half of the eighteenth century in southern Italy there are no particular changes in the essential characteristics of the furniture, which still has the specifications of the previous century. This is clearly visible in this bedside table, characterized by a sinuous trend but with already more Rococo infiltrations that dampen the specifically baroque magniloquence.
Another bedside table similar to the one presented here, is located at the Museo Correale in Sorrento and is an example of how this type of furniture was widespread in southern Italy. Another example is Roman, in private collection and has a rounded and sinuous shape and the same lozenge decoration in bois de rose and red marble top.
